The Axe Theft of 1948

The 1948 Theft adds yet another chapter to the mystery of the Stanford Axe. The Axe was stolen from its case in the Berkeley student union, but there were no visible signs of entry into the building.

Whoever took the Axe clearly did not want the responsibility of protecting it. The trophy showed up leaning against a tree on the Stanford Golf course.
